This research, conducted by James Bell Associates, synthesizes the evaluation findings of post-adoption services and marriage education programs for seven non-profit agencies. Each agency evaluated the effectiveness of its program and most found an increase in knowledge and awareness of communication and relationship skills, improved family relationship attitudes and overall family functioning, and high levels of satisfaction with the marriage education and support services they received. Some child behavior improvements were reported, although the findings were inconsistent. However, parents reported feeling more confident in their abilities to manage their children's behavior in general. The results suggest that marriage education programs can be beneficial, and there is no single model for implementing a successful program. The report also provides six recommendations for successful program implementation based on lessons learned and three recommendations for successful program evaluation.
