Presented by the National Healthy Marriage Resource Center on June 25, 2008, this 1 hour, 30 minutes webinar discusses key findings that have emerged from father involvement research and what they mean for fatherhood and marriage programming, research and policy developments that have lead to government sponsored programs that encourage responsible fatherhood and healthy marriages, and resources that marriage and fatherhood programs can use to strengthen their ability to understand and engage fathers and provide healthy marriage activities. The first presentation is offered by Dr. Natasha Cabrera from the University of Maryland, and discusses factors that facilitate father involvement for resident and nonresident fathers and the impact of father involvement on child development. The second presentation is offered by Nigel Vann, Director of Training and Technical Assistance at the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse, and reviews the benefits of Healthy Marriage (HM) and Responsible Fatherhood (RF) programs for fathers, the basis of HM and RF programs, lessons learned from fatherhood work, key recruitment challenges, goals of HM and RF programs, program elements of RF and HM programs, and making a connection between HM and RF programs. The final presentation by Joe Jones, founder and President of the Center for Urban Families (CFUF), explores the connection between fatherhood and marriage and highlights efforts by the CFUF to connect HM and RF programs. Strategies for implementing a program and engaging and retaining couples are described. Answers to questions posed by webinar participants are also included, as well as a PowerPoint presentation and transcript.
