Conflict arises over expectations, misunderstandings, and goals and how to reach them. A conflict-free relationship is not necessarily a healthy relationship, but the failure to handle conflicts constructively is a way to destroy relationships. This fact sheet describes understanding another person's position, avoiding traps that delve into unresolved conflict, and processing conflict constructively. When conflict is dealt with in a constructive manner then relationships may be strengthened and closeness increased. While not specifically focused on marriages, the information regarding resolving conflict may be applied to couples.
