In the U.S., 2.7 million grandparents are raising their grandchildren. Of these, 21 percent are below the poverty line and 37 percent are age 60 or older. Based on interviews from 20 grandparent caregivers, this report puts a face on the personal and financial sacrifice many grandfamilies make to keep grandchildren out of the foster care system and addresses some ways to improve the financial lives of grandfamilies.
