This fact sheet provides a basic overview of useful information for respite providers who work with individuals and families with children who are medically fragile. It is also meant to assist Lifespan Respite grantees and their collaborators by increasing their understanding of the unique needs of this population and their family caregivers. Information is provided on the incidence of medically fragile children, the challenges faced by families with medically fragile children, and barriers to respite facing family caregivers of children who are medically fragile. Information is also included to help families find, select, and pay for respite, and successful respite programs are highlighted.
